Hardwood windows in Glasgow City

Bespoke timber windows and doors, surveyed, made and installed across Glasgow City — Glasgow, Bearsden, Milngavie, Newton Mearns, Giffnock and everywhere between.

The case for hardwood windows in Glasgow City is straightforward — hardwood outlasts the alternatives, can be repaired rather than replaced, and holds the character of the building.

Most timber joinery enquiries we take from Glasgow City start with a photograph and a rough measurement. That is enough for an indicative figure — the survey firms it up.

What we bring to a Glasgow City project

Standard on every order
  • Compression seals rather than brush pile where the design allows, for a measurably tighter close.
  • Micro-porous finishes that let the timber breathe rather than trapping moisture behind a hard film.
  • FSC-certified hardwood with documented chain of custody, available on request for planning submissions.
  • Factory-finished in controlled conditions — three coats minimum, fully cured before delivery.
  • Warm-edge spacer bars as standard, which cut the cold bridge at the glass edge and reduce condensation.

Prices below are supplied-and-fitted including VAT, for a typical domestic unit in Idigbo with double glazing and a factory-painted finish. Oak, Accoya, triple glazing and larger openings move the figure up; ordering several units at once brings it down.

Questions from Glasgow City homeowners

Are hardwood windows secure?

Yes. Multi-point locking, laminated glass options and key-locking handles are all available, and a solid hardwood frame is considerably harder to attack than a hollow plastic one. We can specify to PAS 24 where a planning condition or insurer requires it.

Do you take away the old windows?

Yes. Removal and responsible disposal are included, along with making good internally. We work one opening at a time so the property is never left open, and we clear the site each day.

How much disruption should I expect?

Less than most people fear. A straightforward replacement is one opening at a time, typically two to four windows a day. Scaffolding is only needed on higher elevations. We protect floors and furniture and leave the site clean each evening.

How long do hardwood windows actually last?

Properly specified and maintained hardwood joinery has a realistic service life of 60 years or more. The timber is rarely what fails — it is the finish and the seals, and both are renewable. That is the fundamental advantage over uPVC, where a failed unit or a distorted frame means the whole window goes.

Are timber windows warm enough for Building Regulations?

Yes, comfortably. Timber is a natural insulator with far lower conductivity than aluminium or steel. A standard hardwood double-glazed window achieves around 1.2–1.4 W/m²K whole-window, against a 1.4 requirement for replacements. Triple glazing in a deeper section will reach roughly 0.8.
