Timber

Accoya Windows

Accoya is acetylated timber — dimensionally stable, rot-resistant and warranted for 50 years above ground. The best-performing paint substrate available.

£2,100 – £2,900Typical guide range, supplied and fitted, including VAT. Varies with size, timber, glazing and finish.

We treat accoya windows in the UK as joinery rather than a product line. That means real sections, real ironmongery and a finish specified for the exposure the building actually gets.

What you get with our accoya windows

Specification as standard
  • Glazing beaded internally, so the sealed units can be replaced without disturbing the external finish.
  • FSC-certified hardwood with documented chain of custody, available on request for planning submissions.
  • Engineered laminated sections on anything over 1.2m, which resist bowing far better than solid stock.
  • End-grain sealed at every cut before assembly — the single detail that decides whether joinery rots.
  • Glazing beaded internally, so the sealed units can be replaced without disturbing the external finish.

How we price accoya windows

The guide range above assumes a typical domestic unit in Idigbo with argon-filled double glazing and a factory-painted finish. The variables that move the number most are, in order: overall size, timber species, glazing specification and finish. Access and making good come next.

How long do hardwood windows actually last?

Properly specified and maintained hardwood joinery has a realistic service life of 60 years or more. The timber is rarely what fails — it is the finish and the seals, and both are renewable. That is the fundamental advantage over uPVC, where a failed unit or a distorted frame means the whole window goes.

Are timber windows warm enough for Building Regulations?

Yes, comfortably. Timber is a natural insulator with far lower conductivity than aluminium or steel. A standard hardwood double-glazed window achieves around 1.2–1.4 W/m²K whole-window, against a 1.4 requirement for replacements. Triple glazing in a deeper section will reach roughly 0.8.

Can I have double glazing in a conservation area?

Usually, yes — using slim-profile sealed units as narrow as 11mm, which fit within traditional glazing bar sections without fattening them. Conservation officers vary, so we specify from the outset to whatever the local authority has stated and provide section drawings for the application.

Do you repair windows or only replace them?

We repair wherever repair is the right answer. Rot is normally localised in a cill or the bottom of a stile, and splicing in new hardwood is typically a third of the cost of replacement. We will tell you honestly at survey which way the economics fall.

Can you match existing windows?

Yes. That is most of what we do. We record the existing sections at survey, reproduce the mouldings and sightlines, and match the finish. On listed buildings we will produce like-for-like profile drawings for the consent application.

Are hardwood windows secure?

Yes. Multi-point locking, laminated glass options and key-locking handles are all available, and a solid hardwood frame is considerably harder to attack than a hollow plastic one. We can specify to PAS 24 where a planning condition or insurer requires it.
