Listed Building Windows
Listed building consent turns on detail. We survey the existing joinery, record the profiles and reproduce them section for section.
Our listed building windows are made from kiln-dried hardwood, machined in the workshop and factory-finished before they ever reach a the UK site. Wet-brushing on site is where timber windows get a bad name.
What you get with our listed building windows
- Stainless or solid brass ironmongery, because plated steel fails first and takes the finish with it.
- Compression seals rather than brush pile where the design allows, for a measurably tighter close.
- Trickle ventilation designed into the head where Building Regulations require it, not drilled in afterwards.
- Factory-finished in controlled conditions — three coats minimum, fully cured before delivery.

How we price listed building windows
The guide range above assumes a typical domestic unit in Idigbo with argon-filled double glazing and a factory-painted finish. The variables that move the number most are, in order: overall size, timber species, glazing specification and finish. Access and making good come next.
| Variable | Effect on price |
|---|---|
| Timber species | Idigbo baseline · Sapele +7% · Accoya +24% · European oak +38% |
| Glazing | Double baseline · heritage slim +13% · triple +19% |
| Finish | Primed only −8% · factory painted baseline · stained or oiled +4% |
| Quantity | 2–4 units −3% · 5–9 units −6% · 10+ units −10% |

Listed Buildings — measured, priced and drawn before anything is made.
Not sure on budget?
The guide price tool gives you a realistic range for listed building windows in under two minutes.
Get an indicative priceCan you match existing windows?
Yes. That is most of what we do. We record the existing sections at survey, reproduce the mouldings and sightlines, and match the finish. On listed buildings we will produce like-for-like profile drawings for the consent application.
Are hardwood windows secure?
Yes. Multi-point locking, laminated glass options and key-locking handles are all available, and a solid hardwood frame is considerably harder to attack than a hollow plastic one. We can specify to PAS 24 where a planning condition or insurer requires it.
Do you take away the old windows?
Yes. Removal and responsible disposal are included, along with making good internally. We work one opening at a time so the property is never left open, and we clear the site each day.
How much disruption should I expect?
Less than most people fear. A straightforward replacement is one opening at a time, typically two to four windows a day. Scaffolding is only needed on higher elevations. We protect floors and furniture and leave the site clean each evening.
How long do hardwood windows actually last?
Properly specified and maintained hardwood joinery has a realistic service life of 60 years or more. The timber is rarely what fails — it is the finish and the seals, and both are renewable. That is the fundamental advantage over uPVC, where a failed unit or a distorted frame means the whole window goes.
Are timber windows warm enough for Building Regulations?
Yes, comfortably. Timber is a natural insulator with far lower conductivity than aluminium or steel. A standard hardwood double-glazed window achieves around 1.2–1.4 W/m²K whole-window, against a 1.4 requirement for replacements. Triple glazing in a deeper section will reach roughly 0.8.
