Hardwood Tilt & Turn Windows in Ayrshire

Tilt for secure trickle ventilation, turn fully inward for cleaning and escape — the European system in a solid hardwood frame.

£1,900 – £2,600Guide range in Ayrshire, supplied and fitted, including VAT.

We treat hardwood tilt & turn windows in Ayrshire as joinery rather than a product line. That means real sections, real ironmongery and a finish specified for the exposure the building actually gets.

Specified for Ayrshire properties

Standard specification
  • Glazing beaded internally, so the sealed units can be replaced without disturbing the external finish.
  • Trickle ventilation designed into the head where Building Regulations require it, not drilled in afterwards.
  • Kiln-dried to 12% moisture content before machining, so the sections stay true once they are installed.
  • Engineered laminated sections on anything over 1.2m, which resist bowing far better than solid stock.
  • Stainless or solid brass ironmongery, because plated steel fails first and takes the finish with it.

Ayrshire has a housing stock that punishes off-the-shelf joinery — openings settle, reveals go out of square, and cills rarely sit level. Bespoke hardwood tilt & turn windows solve that properly.

Ask for the guide price first. If the range works for your budget, we will book a survey in Ayr and firm it up properly.

Questions

Do you take away the old windows?

Yes. Removal and responsible disposal are included, along with making good internally. We work one opening at a time so the property is never left open, and we clear the site each day.

How much disruption should I expect?

Less than most people fear. A straightforward replacement is one opening at a time, typically two to four windows a day. Scaffolding is only needed on higher elevations. We protect floors and furniture and leave the site clean each evening.

How long do hardwood windows actually last?

Properly specified and maintained hardwood joinery has a realistic service life of 60 years or more. The timber is rarely what fails — it is the finish and the seals, and both are renewable. That is the fundamental advantage over uPVC, where a failed unit or a distorted frame means the whole window goes.

Are timber windows warm enough for Building Regulations?

Yes, comfortably. Timber is a natural insulator with far lower conductivity than aluminium or steel. A standard hardwood double-glazed window achieves around 1.2–1.4 W/m²K whole-window, against a 1.4 requirement for replacements. Triple glazing in a deeper section will reach roughly 0.8.

Can I have double glazing in a conservation area?

Usually, yes — using slim-profile sealed units as narrow as 11mm, which fit within traditional glazing bar sections without fattening them. Conservation officers vary, so we specify from the outset to whatever the local authority has stated and provide section drawings for the application.
